October 15, 2000 marked the big day for Paul and Gina Mangiamele, as it was Grand Opening Day for The Electric Train Company. After months of planning and preparation, the entrepreneurial desire to own a model train shop was now a reality. Since that day, Paul and Gina have worked hard to provide a wonderful shopping experience. Although a full line model train shop, The Electric Train Company strives to offer a wide scope of train experiences through product, train related travel trips and this online presence. Additionally, they have brought model railroading to everyone, including those with disabilities through their Therapeutic Railroading program.
Paul began his toy train hobby as an 0 gauge modeler at the age of 21 years old. In his grandmother's basement in Victor, he had a huge layout with engines, rolling stock, transformers, track and plenty of operating accessories. It's been an interest that spans nearly three decades.
As for Gina, she loves the real trains. In the mid-1980s, she worked for the Delaware Otsego Corporation, owner of the New York Susquehanna and Western. She has a passion for big locomotives, freight trains and "high-railin'."
Today, Paul and Gina are living the entrepreneurial dream of owning and growing their own business. It's not easy and it's not quick, but it is very rewarding to see the excitement in each customer who loves this hobby. Even those who don't model enjoy the thrill and excitement of playing with the trains.
